No. Many pickup sessions are completely free. Players join without entering payment details. When a host sets a price, you’ll see it clearly before booking. Paid public games use in-app checkout (card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay). Private invite-only games may use offline payment (cash or e-Transfer) arranged directly with the host.

No. You can download the app, create an account, and join free games without adding a card. You only pay when you book a session that has a fee, and only through in-app checkout on public games.

Public games appear on your city’s Discover feed. Anyone in your city can find them, and paid public games use in-app checkout. Private games are invite-only. The host shares a link, and those sessions can be free, paid in-app, or paid offline (cash or e-Transfer) depending on how the host set it up.

After downloading the app, you choose your city during onboarding so your feed, sessions, and league activity match your local market.

Pickup sessions with clear details like time, location, format, and who’s in. You’ll also see recurring weekly series and private sessions when you’re invited.

Someone shares an invite link with you. Open the link on your phone, download LocalRec if you don’t have it yet, and claim your spot. You’ll see the roster, time, location, and any payment details before you join.

Yes. During checkout, use Additional spots to reserve extra places for friends. Add each friend’s name, and the same per-player price is added to your total. After you book, share the invite link so they can claim their spot in the app.

For free games, you can cancel anytime in the app before kickoff. Your spot is released with no payment or refund involved. For in-app paid bookings, cancel at least 24 hours before kickoff for a full refund to your original payment method. Cancellations within 24 hours are not eligible for a refund. If LocalRec or the organizer cancels the game, you’re refunded automatically. See our refund policy at https://localrec.ca/refund for full details. Offline payments are handled directly with the host.

Yes. LocalRec supports league workflows for organizers and players, including free registration or paid team and per-player options.

Yes. Create a private session, share the invite link, and manage the roster in one place. Private games can be free, paid in-app, or paid offline.

Apply at https://localrec.ca/host with your city and experience. Once approved, you can create games and leagues in the app, including free sessions, in-app paid games, and private offline-payment groups.

Yes. When you create a game, mark it as free. Players join without entering payment details. Many hosts start with free community pickup before adding paid sessions.

We review your application and follow up by email. No payment or Stripe setup is required to apply. Once approved, hosting tools unlock in the app so you can create your first session.

Free games require no payment. For in-app paid bookings, you pay when you reserve your spot. If you cancel when policy allows, you’ll get a refund or game credit. If the organizer cancels, you’re automatically refunded. Offline payments are arranged directly with the host outside the app, and LocalRec does not process or refund those.
